Book an Appointment for Acute Illnesses in Children & Youth
If your child or teen is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, ear pain/infection, urinary symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash, they may need an in-person assessment at our clinic.
Before booking an appointment, please ensure the following:
1. Your child or teen is experiencing at least one of the symptoms listed above.
2. You are unable to see your family doctor or do not have one.
If these conditions apply, we are here to help with the assessment and care your child needs.
Please note, we always recommend contacting your family doctor first for general care whenever possible. If you are unable to reach them, or do not have a family doctor, you can proceed with booking an appointment at our clinic

How do I know if my child is eligible for an appointment at your clinic?
IMPORTANT: Before you consider booking an appointment with East Ottawa Kids Care Clinic, first call your regular primary care provider to determine if they can assess your child.
Our clinic is available for in-person assessment and care of children and youth with acute illnesses which include a fever, cough or runny nose.
Please contact us if:
- Your child or youth has a new symptom (fever, cough, vomiting, belly pain, ear ache, rash or sore throat), for which you would usually seek medical attention from your primary care provider, but may not be able to see them.

What hours is the clinic open?
Monday through Friday | 5pm to 9pm
Saturday & Sunday | 9am to 1pm

Who should visit a clinical assessment centre?
You should book a clinical assessment if you are ill and you:
- Have been directed by your primary care provider or other health care professional
- Are unable to safely monitor your child's symptoms at home
If your child has one or more of the following symptoms, you should immediately call 911 or go to the emergency department:
- Working hard to breathe, breathing faster than normal, pale skin, white or blue lips
- Severe chest pain
- Feeling confused, sudden weakness or difficulty talking
- Losing consciousness or your child is very sleepy or difficult to wake despite fever medicine
- Vomiting or diarrhea containing large amount of blood

What ages of children will you see?
We will see children as young as 3 months to 17 years at our clinic.

What type of tests are offered at the clinic?
Tests offered onsite at the East Ottawa Kids Care Clinic include:
- Throat swab
- Urine testing, for children who can pee in a cup

What do I need to bring to the appointment?
Please bring your childs OHIP card.

Do we need to arrive early? And how long is the appointment?
Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment.
Full Assessment - Approximately 15 minutes (variable)
Swab Test Only - Approximately 10 minutes

Is the appointment covered by OHIP? And the cost of any tests?
Yes, the appointment is covered by OHIP. There are no costs to the tests.
